I Feel Numb and Far Away From My Own Life: What’s Happening to Me?

The Question

“I want to ask about this numb, flat feeling that’s taken over my life. On paper, nothing is falling apart, I have work, responsibilities, people who care about me, but inside it feels like I’m watching myself live from far away, just going through the motions.

I don’t have big breakdowns, I just feel muted and disconnected, like I’ve lost both the highs and the lows, and I’m stuck in a grey middle with no real colour to anything.

Inside it feels heavy and distant: my chest feels dull, my body feels tired and fuzzy, and there’s this repeating thought of, ‘Maybe this is just who I am now, someone who can’t really feel.’

I’ve tried journaling, meditating, gratitude lists, even pushing myself into new hobbies, but nothing seems to touch the numbness in a real way. What I most want from your answer is help understanding what this numbness actually is, why it might be here, and a gentle, realistic way to begin coming back to life
